Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I use a professional installing dealer?
At Windsor Door Sales, Inc. we believe that the installation of a garage door and a garage door opener is not a do-it-yourself job. A garage door is the largest moving object in your home and generally the main entrance and exit out of the home. With potentially dangerous counter-balance systems and a large number of moving parts the installation can be very technical. Connecting springs is a dangerous business for those who have the wrong tools or little experience. Furthermore, a professional installing dealer can be very helpful with potential warranty claims as he has intimate knowledge of the product and generally a strong relationship with the manufacturer this can be very helpful to a homeowner in the long run. Also, we dispose of your old door for you!
Garage door openers can also potentially troublesome for non-professionals. The incorrect install can severely damage your door and cause headaches down the line. Also, a professional installer will service and adjust your garage door for you prior to the installation of a door opener. Without a properly balanced door that is working well, the life of your door opener can also be severely diminished.

Can I paint my steel door? What should I use? How do I stain, seal and or paint my wood door?
Yes, you can paint any steel door or order one pre-painted from the factory. You can also get doors powder coated from the factory with over 100 choices! Will you dispose of my old garage door if I replace it with a new one?
Windsor Door Sales, Inc. will be happy to take down and haul away the old door with the installation of a new door. We also recycle all of the steel doors we remove.
Can you replace a one-piece door with a new sectional door?
Yes. We do it all the time. Sometimes because of the way the hardware fits and the way the door operates we will be required to re-frame the interior of your garage so the door will fit. There is a charge for this, however the new sectional door will seal much better and weather-strip much better than the old door will. (Not to mention operate better!)
Are special sizes available?
Absolutely! We can create custom sizes if need be. Most manufacturers work with in 6” or 3” increments for width and height. We always figure there is a way to get it done!
My garage has very little room above the door. Can I get a sectional garage door in there?
Yes. Standard lift doors require 12” to 16” for operation. However, we can get doors to work in as little as 4 1/2” of headroom if need be. This requires special track and hardware and is an upgrade to standard pricing but we can make it fit.
How often should I service my door and opener?
Garage doors should usually be serviced annually. The garage door openers should be tested monthly. See the manufacturer’s recommendation for more information. Proper service of your door and opener will assure a long-term smooth operation of the largest moving object in your home.

WHY SHOULD I CHOOSE AN INSULATED DOOR IF MY GARAGE ISN’T INSULATED?
A garage door opening is a very large hole in your garage. Insulated doors will help to reduce the amount of outside temperatures that enter your garage, and in turn keep you more comfortable. Here are some reasons why.
- If your garage is attached to your home, any air can travel through a doorway into your living area.
- If you do any work in the garage comfort is a top priority.
- Many (not all) insulated garage doors are built with sturdier heavier duty construction often with a steel back that not only creates a cleaner look on the interior of the garage but stands firmer and heavier in the garage door opening itself reducing the air flow from around a door. Not to mention reducing dents and damage from basketballs and soccer balls.
